Question of the Day.
At what point does reckless war-profiteering, and support of reckless war-profiteering become treason? Is it enough for the activities to repeatedly and significantly threaten not only missions but also the lives of soldiers and civilians? Is there a set dollar value turn around or is it acceptable for a private company to run a country dry on multiple no-bid profit+ contracts? If a group of people believed that success was assured, and the country's coffers bottomless, does this belief make treason in this fashion impossible? I openly state that I don't believe I can be impartial here. I would very much like to hear your insights. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090520/pl_nm/us_iraq_army_kbr |

Balticon etc.
To Whom this may concern, Due to circumstances beyond my control I will be unable to attend Balticon this May. As a result I will not be able to throw my annual Chocolate and Alcohol party at that convention. I invite anyone wishing to pick-up and carry on that theme to do so. I would like to emphasize that this in no way takes away from the convention which is quite worthy without my little contribution. |

The other kind of revenge...
My recent satisfaction with some events in politics has been constrained by the intersection of several beliefs: 1. We as a country are in a bad combination of circumstances right now 2. It will take extended genuine bipartisan effort to get out of them 3. We will put getting that gbe above investigation and prosecution of those who have wronged my country and the world, and thus many who have acted illegally and immorally will 'get away with it' 4. When people publicly get away with terrible wrongs it leaves a precedent (no pun intended) by which future politicians may commit wrongs against my fellow citizens and against my beloved Constitution Then I read something like the following... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081207/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/obama_veterans_affairsAnd I think, yes, there might be a danger to my country's future in not publicly 'outing' those who've wronged it and making the result enough to make future "evil-doers" [where on earth did I pick up such childish language?]think twice but, isn't there power in doing things right? If living well is neither guaranteed, nor in fact revenge, will not the counter example of doing things the way they ought to be done and reaching decisions the way they ought to be reached (whether time and chance allows them to succeed or not) dissuade future abuses of power in government? Isn't that example good for my country's future? Right now I am hopeful and impressed. |

For my Doctor Who fan friends...
----------- Pianist's skull appears in Hamlet ------------- STRATFORD-ON-AVON, England - An English concert pianist who died 26 years ago has been granted his final wish -- to appear on stage in Hamlet playing the skull in the graveyard scene. Andre Tchaikowsky's skull has been used in rehearsals since he willed it to the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Sun reported. Now, the skull has finished a run of performances in Stratford-on-Avon, with actor David Tennant as Hamlet holding it up while intoning, "Alas, poor Yorick, I knew him, Horatio..." The company didn't let audiences know they were seeing a real skull until the last performance. The Polish-born pianist, who died of cancer at the age of 46, was a fan of William Shakespeare and especially of "Hamlet." He made frequent trips to Stratford to see RSC performances. "It was Andre's dream," Dave Ferre, a friend of the pianist's family, said. "They will be pleased he has made it on stage." Tennant, best-known as the latest incarnation of "Doctor Who," plans to use Tchaikowsky's skull again when the "Hamlet" production opens in London. David Howells, the RSC archivist, says a real skull hasn't been used since the 19th century. |

This Weekend
I realize a lot of you will see this over on Facebook, and a lot of you have you weekend completely planned out. If that is not the case allow me to suggest you stop by Alternate Worlds just past Timonium. It is a comic book and gaming store having an awesome sale this weekend. ... and if you happen to win the preview pass to Watchmen and don't have someone to go with I will be ever so helpful in that regard. : ^ ) |
